Fearless Daughters of the Bible
Fearless Daughters of the Bible by Lee Grady is an inspiring and informative book about 15 Bible women, each exhibiting a notable trait worthy of being imitated. He also identifies several modern-day and historical women who have displayed these traits, revealing the continuity of God’s giftings and callings in women. The 15 traits you will find here are the courage to be a pioneer, to challenge tradition, to forsake the past, to claim God’s blessing, to believe God, to challenge injustice, to lead in a man’s world, to fight, to protect, to surrender, to worship, to forgive, to go first, to mentor others, and to speak for God. Do any of these spark something in you?
Grady says,
When you read the Bible, it is obvious that God often anoints women to be initiators. He did not create women just to follow the guys around. In fact, when He decided to send His only begotten Son into the world, He looked for a woman…and He did not ask her father’s permission or seek her fiancé’s approval before causing her to become supernaturally impregnated with the divine seed. God sought out a woman to do this miracle. He challenged the norms of culture and broke with patriarchal tradition.[1]
God knew that Mary lived under the cultural requirements to be subject to the authority of her father and her betrothed; yet, He sought her acceptance of His call directly. He is still doing this with His daughters today.
You will see that from the beginning in Genesis, God intended to involve women in Redemption’s plan. We see this continued in the many women named in Jesus’ genealogy and in the many women in the New Testament who supported, believed in, and told others about the Savior.
All the Father is looking for are women who will be bold, courageous, and fearless enough to go against traditions that hold people down, who will challenge injustice and blaze a new trail in whatever sphere they encounter.
In this book, you will read about women of the Bible that you have never heard anyone teach about, women like Achsah (Caleb’s bold daughter) and Phillip’s four daughters who were known as prophets in the Early Church. They were intentionally mentioned in Acts 21:8–9, thus reflecting what happened when 120 men and women gathered in the Upper Room and the tongues of fire rested on each one of them. Undoubtedly you will see yourself in these stories, and we pray you will be inspired to be bold and courageously challenge the norms you have been taught to accept. You will find God’s favor, expansion, and blessings on your life as surely as these women did; and you will play a larger role in God’s plan than you have ever dreamed possible.
As you read, notice which of the 15 traits you possess. Which of the traits are potentially in you? Most likely, none of the women discussed saw herself as prepared, ready, or worthy of being called by God. But each said yes! Will you?
