Healing Apologies
Meaningful, quality relationships take a great deal of work at times. Sadly, we all blow it with those we love; but instead of our blunders destroying what we have with a friend or loved one, a heartfelt apology can go a long way in repairing a breach that we have caused.
As I see it, apologies consist of 3 statements, all of which are essential if healing is to take place. Of course, each should be stated sincerely and with a spirit of humility.
1. “What I did was wrong.”
2. “I feel badly that I hurt you.”
3. “How can I make this better?”
Although we cannot control the beliefs, feelings and decisions of others, we can at least do our part to mend what has been injured. Communication is the lifeblood of any relationship.
“Be strong and of good courage.” Take the first step and extend the love you have in your heart. What can result is a deeper, stronger connection, one that gives glory to God.
